In early march I had the great opportunity to interview a bone marrow donor! He is actually a doctor himself, so he understood the importance of his actions even more. We talked about the process he went through donating, and he said it was painless. We chatted for a long time, and I learned so much about how to donate and what it entails.
The process was quick to register, and he ended up being selected to donate. He described the immensely satisfying feeling of saving a person’s life. In fact, he said that after the whole process was over and the recipient was healthy, he was able to actually meet the person he saved. She was a mid 40s mom who lived in California, and the whole reunion was extremely emotional. She was grateful beyond words for his help as she would not be standing there that day if it weren’t for him. I myself was almost brought to tears as I heard how incredible his whole experience was. He convinced me and as soon as I turn 18, I will register to Be the Match to donate.
